2026 Introductions Spotlight Series
Every now and then, a seedling shows up in the garden and makes you stop in your tracks. Not because it is pretty or polite or classically elegant, but because it is bold, unpredictable, and just a little bit wild. Electric Octopus is that seedling. From the moment it bloomed, we knew this one was different. It made us lean in closer, laugh out loud, and say, “Okay… what ARE you?” It stood out so strongly that it earned its place as one of the most thrilling introductions in our 2026 lineup.
Electric Octopus is not here to whisper. It is here to steal the show. With long curling tentacle like petals that twist and reach in every direction, the bloom has an almost animated energy, like it might slither right off the scape and dance through the garden. The form is untamed, sculptural, and unapologetically dramatic. Every bloom feels alive and always looks a little different from the last. In a garden full of round and ruffled faces, Electric Octopus is your rebellious teenager, expressive, theatrical, and completely unforgettable.
It had already been watched and evaluated for years before we arrived, but even in our first season with it, Electric Octopus made an unforgettable impression. From a technical standpoint, this one packs serious performance. It stands at 36 inches with a commanding presence in the garden, and the 7.25-inch bloom gives the sculpted edge plenty of room to shine. It’s an early-season bloomer with rebloom, which means you get multiple rounds of the drama. The cultivar supports 25 buds on 5-way branching, giving a reliable show through the season. The bloom itself is a rich wine purple, fading into a green-to-gold throat, and finished with a cream-yellow ruffled edge that throws off fringe and tentacle-like extensions, the signature trait that inspired its name.
Electric Octopus represents an exciting direction for us, a move toward sculptural and kinetic floral forms that bring personality and motion into the garden. While Floyd Cove is known for clarity, branching, and refined form, this flower showcases something entirely different: movement. It is botanical performance art and a creative chapter we are excited to explore.

As Toby put it, “Electric Octopus showed more attitude and personality than almost anything else in the field. It demanded attention, and that’s when you know you have something special."
Whether you are a serious hybridizer, a gardener wanting a true showstopper, or a collector of unusual forms, Electric Octopus brings something rare: authentic novelty paired with real performance. It is the one your visitors will not forget.
Electric Octopus and all of our 2026 introductions are now available on our website and will be featured in our new catalog shipping in December. If you are ready to welcome a little controlled chaos into your landscape, Electric Octopus is ready to twist, curl, stretch, and shock its way into your garden.
